The configuration file that you need to spend most of your time with is the /etc/ samba/smbconf file This file is the heart of your Samba configuration It s divided into two parts: global options and shared resources The [global] section is used to define options that apply server-wide The shared resources section is used to define resources on the server that can be accessed by SMB clients A portion of an smb conf file is shown in Figure 14-31 There are a ton of options that you can configure in the [global] section of smbconf, most of which we don t have time to cover here If you want to see a list of all possible parameters, see the man page for smbconf For your Linux+ certification, you need to be familiar with the global options in Table 14-7 The next section of smbconf that you need to know about is [homes] (see Figure 14-31) The [homes] section of the configuration file is used to define shared resources and share the home directories of the user accounts on your system In addition to sharing home directories, you can also use smbconf to create your own shared directories To do this, you add a section to the smbconf file using the following syntax:
